Guest Post – Makeup-Pixi3’s Favourite Five Neutral Eye Shadows for Winter

Winter neutrals

Hello :)  The lovely Gem and I are doing a cheeky little guest post swap, once she’s come back from her trip to the states she’ll be doing a US beauty haul post on my blog, so you’ll have to keep your eyes peeled for that :)
A little bit about me – I’m a beauty, makeup and lifestyle blogger over at Makeup-Pixi3 – you may have seen me around on twitter and in the general blogosphere, I’m pretty active out there :)  My blog is mostly reviews of products like makeup, skincare with a random mix of lifestyle stuff and random reviews of things I like not makeup related :)  Some quick facts about me – I love cats, sushi, studio ghibli, gaming (Minecraft, Skyrim, Halo, The Sims… and so many more!), I’m married and vegetarian and I work in Digital Marketing for a well known UK price comparison site :)
So, my post today is on my favourite five neutral eye shadows for winter.  What I love about neutral eye shadows in winter is I think it’s a nice warm look, almost cosy, and winter here in the UK is a very chilly time of year, and here in Wales, it’s also very wet, so making yourself feel a little more cosy is a great thing this time of year.  So without further ado, here’s my top 5 neutral eye shadows.

Products from Too Faced, Maybelline, MUA and Covergirl.
The colours I’ve picked can either be worn alone and all over the lid, or you can combine them, generally with a light shade all over the lid and a darker shade either through the crease, or on the outer half or third of the lid.

Too Faced Cinnamon Sugar
First off, I really love this palette, I’ve been wearing it for weeks now and I’ve worn every shade.  They’re great quality, brilliant pigmentation, durability and very blendable.  This is such a pretty shimmery colour, it’s not quite golden, it has more of a warmth to it than a stark gold.  When I wear this shade it’s usually over the top of a lighter colour, and I have this in the centre of the lid with a darker shade on the outer third.
Cover Girl Shimmering Sands Trio
I’ve picked the middle shade from this trio as I think it’s the most versatile.  It’s cheap and affordable (yes, it’s American so it’s not exactly easy to get hold of in the UK, but if you fish around on ebay you can find it) and great quality.  If you have this trio, you’ll know that the 3 shades together work really well too :)

L-R 1. Too Faced Cinnamon Sugar, 2. Covergirl Shimmering Sands (middle shade), 3. Maybelline Iced Fudge, 4. Maybelline colour tattoo in Barely Beige, 5. MUA Undressed palette shade 10.
Maybelline Iced Fudge
I’m pretty much in love with this colour.  It’s not your typical neutral as it’s not beige, but it’s this beautiful colour that’s really hard to describe.  It’s like a soft caramel hot chocolate colour with a frosted finish.  It’s really pretty and in my opinion, looks great by itself without any other shades in the crease etc, it’s highly wearable and works great with a black winged eyeliner and a berry lip.
Maybelline Colour tattoo in Barely Beige
Another USA special edition (which will hopefully be released here too *fingers crossed*) but if you can get hold of this, it’s a great dupe for the MAC Painterly paint pot.  Apply it thinly to your lid and let set, then apply a similar shade over it.  It will glisten through, make the colour on top more vibrant, and give the whole look more lasting power and strength.  It’s great as a base, or wearing it alone with a darker shade on the lash line and through the crease.
MUA Undressed Palette shade 10
When I wear the Undressed palette, this is one of my most used shades.  It’s a darker one and one I would typically put on the outer third of my lid and up through the crease.  It’s a stunning chocolate brown that’s not too dark.  I’m in love with this palette / shade and it works beautifully with any of the other shades I’ve mentioned :)
So there you have it, my top picks for neutrals for winter, I hope you like them :)  Don’t forget to head over to my blog Makeup-Pixi3 and check it out – I have a new blog post up pretty much every day and now as it’s December, I have Blogmas going on, so xmas themed posts every day in Dec!
Thanks for reading, look forward to chatting to you :)

  1. I’ve always been tempted by the MUA Undressed palette but already own both UD Naked palettes so have been unsure whether I really need it. I’d definitely have bought it if I didn’t own a Naked palette though x
